Programs
Infants
Ages 6 weeks - 18 months
Young infants need security most of all. They thrive on the warmth and caring that come from close relationships. Having someone special who responds quickly to their cues helps babies build a base of security that will support their exploration, learning, and identity formation."
Toddlers
Ages 18 months - 3 years
"Toddlers are primarily concerned with developing an understanding of who they are. Beginning at around 18 months, identity becomes the dominant theme for them. Developing this sense of self has a lot to do with their desire and drive for independence and control."
Preschool
Ages 3 years - 4 years
"We refer to children ages 3 to 5 as preschoolers, even though the label has lost its former meaning as "the years before school attendance." Now the preschool year or years before kindergarten are recognized as vitally important period of learning and development in their own right, not merely as a time for growth in anticipation of the "real learning" that will begin in school.
School Age
Ages 5 years - 10 years
"The early grades are a time for children to shine-they gain increasing mastery in every area of their development and learning. They explore, read, reason, problem solve, communicate through conversation and writing, and develop lasting friendships. They delight in their new intellectual prowess, social skills, and physical abilities. When all goes well, teachers can take advantage of the fit between developmentally appropriate classroom practice and primary grade goals to instill in children a lifelong love of learning."
